BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Box office takings on International Children's Day on June 1 increased five percent from the previous year to reach 147 million yuan (about 22.4 million U.S. dollars).
"The Angry Birds Movie" was the top choice for movie-goers, grossing 63.7 million yuan on the recording day, according to China Film News.
"Alice Through the Looking Glass" was a respectable number two, generating 55.1 million yuan.
Super hero blockbuster "Captain America: Civil War" landed in third, reaping 9.5 million yuan.
China's box office takings on International Children's Day have increased substantially in recent years, soaring to 184 million yuan in 2014 before cooling to 140 million in 2015.
