ZAGREB, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Croatian main ruling party Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) on Tuesday filed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic.
The motion listed six reasons for the attempted impeachment, such as not keeping his promises of dealing with the economy, social issues and creating jobs.
"He brought into question the functioning of the executive authority," the motion read.
Forty-two members of parliament in the 151-seat assembly supported the motion though some MPs from HDZ did not sign the motion. Some coalition partners from several small parties did not sign it as well.
Croatian biggest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) said on Tuesday the party did not decide its position on the motion, but called for early elections as soon as possible.
Also on Tuesday, Croatian Prime Minister Oreskovic reiterated Tomislav Karamarko, the first deputy prime minister and president of HDZ, was a "huge burden" for the government and the HDZ.
He said he would receive win the confidence motion in parliament.
These developments were triggered following a junior coalition, the MOST party, led by Deputy Prime Minister Bozo Petrov, insisting Karamarko step down over a scandal involving business dealings between his wife and a contractor for Hungary's oil company MOL, the biggest shareholder in the Croatian energy company INA.
MOST accused Karamarko of a conflict of interests. Enditem
