JSE closes lower, led by gold miners and resources losses

JOHANNESBURG, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) all share ended on Tuesday 0.15 percent lower to 52955.18 points, with losses led by gold miners and resource shares.

The blue-chip top 40 lost 0.22 percent. Resources led on the weaker side, dropping 1.24 percent, and industrials dropped 0.20 percent. Platinums lost 2.95 percent.

Gold had fallen 1.46 percent to 1270.83 U.S. dollar an ounce.

The rand was trading at 14.74 to the U.S. dollar, 21.59 to the British pound and 16.60 to the euro at close of session.

Ranking in the top ten losers was Harmony Gold Mining Company, whose shares lost 7.17 percent after investors bought and sold 3,958,038 shares in 3,746 deals, sending the share price down to R46.86.

Amongst the top ten movers up was PPC Limited, whose shares lifted 10.53 percent to sell at R8.29 after investors exchanged 8,056,830 shares in 2,054 deals. Enditem

JOHANNESBURG, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) all share ended on Tuesday 0.15 percent lower to 52955.18 points, with losses led by gold miners and resource shares.

The blue-chip top 40 lost 0.22 percent. Resources led on the weaker side, dropping 1.24 percent, and industrials dropped 0.20 percent. Platinums lost 2.95 percent.

Gold had fallen 1.46 percent to 1270.83 U.S. dollar an ounce.

The rand was trading at 14.74 to the U.S. dollar, 21.59 to the British pound and 16.60 to the euro at close of session.

Ranking in the top ten losers was Harmony Gold Mining Company, whose shares lost 7.17 percent after investors bought and sold 3,958,038 shares in 3,746 deals, sending the share price down to R46.86.
