BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top political advisor urged fellow advisors to pool wisdom and strength for poverty relief in order to build a moderately prosperous society in an all-around manner.
Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the call at the closing of the 16th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th CPPCC National Committee on Friday.
Attendees at the meeting voiced opinions and raised proposals on targeted poverty reduction.
Calling winning the battle against poverty a "major political task," Yu said strong input must be channeled to weak areas so as to make sure that all poor areas and people share in the moderately prosperous society by 2020.
Yu also stressed a matter-of-fact attitude in order to enact policies for different areas according to their situations.
Yu called for concerted efforts in poverty reduction and regional development, as well as striking a balance between government and market, poverty relief and basic allowances.
Additionally, Yu asked political advisors to raise to-the-point proposals on poverty relief, and play their due roles as supervisors on critical issues, based on in-depth investigations, research, data analysis and fact-finding.
