NAY PYI TAW, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Buddhists make up 87.9 percent of Myanmar's population, government census figures showed on Thursday.
The Union Report of Religion, a supplement of the 2014 Myanmar Population and Housing Census, showed that Christians account for 6.2 percent of the population while Muslims make up 4.3 percent.
Some 0.5 percent of the population registered as Hindu, 0.8 percent as Animist, 0.2 percent as "other" and 0.1 percent as having no religion.
The statistics took into account both enumerated and non-enumerated population.
The 2014 census, the first of its kind in the country in decades, enumerated a total of 50,279,900 persons. An estimated 1.2 million people in Rakhine, Kayin and Kachin states were not enumerated in the census.
