Inner mongolia city suffers severe drought

HOHHOT, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- A severe drought in a city in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has damaged almost 70,000 square kilometers of pastures and brought drinking water problems for nearly 10,000 people and 3.5 million head of livestock, local authorities said Friday.

The drought has been going on in the city of Hulun Buir for two months. The city registered a temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius (111 degrees Fahrenheit) on Wednesday, the highest in its history, according to the local weather bureau.

The city government has dispatched about 50,000 personnel and allocated more than 46 million yuan (7 million U.S. dollars) to relieve the drought.
