FRANKFURT, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- At least one man was seriously injured in a knife and shooting attack in Cologne, Germany on Monday, local media reported.
The attack occurred around four o'clock in the morning in the inner city of Cologne, where a group of five men were foul-mouthed and fought each other with axes.
One of the men was then shot by the others as when trying to run away towards his vehicle. However, bullets reportedly damaged the car only.
The injured has been sent to hospital.
Two suspects have been arrested not far from the scene of the incident, while an additional two suspects are still at large. Motivation of the attack remains unclear, local police said.
Germany witnessed several violent attacks over the past several weeks. German chancellor Angela Merkel in July announced a nine-point plan that featured lowering the hurdles for the expulsion of asylum seekers, adopting an early warning system for radicalization among refugees, and joint exercises of the police and armed forces.
