SYDNEY, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Migaloo the famous white humpback whale was believed to have been spotted off Australia's Cairns coast in Queensland on Friday.
Quicksilver Cruises told NewsCorp that it was 95 percent sure that one of its vessels had sighted the famous humpback whale swimming between Cairns and Green Island just after 2:00 p.m. local time on Friday.
It is not yet known whether the whale, which regularly migrates to the Great Barrier Reef, is swimming north or south.
Australia's eastern coastline comes alive with acrobatic displays of humpback whales as they migrate north to mate and give birth between June and August, before returning to the Antarctic waters in September and November to hunt for krill during the southern hemisphere's summer.
This year, Migaloo had been swimming under police escort.
The famous white humpback which has been seen almost every year off Australia eastern coast since 1991 was last spotted at Whitsundays in Queensland about four weeks ago.
