Google creates Australia's largest online museum platform

SYDNEY, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Google Australia has created a new online platform within its Arts and Culture app to showcase some of the best exhibits that Australian museums have to offer to the world.

The American search engine announced on Wednesday that it has created Australia's largest online museum and has named it the Australian Natural History platform.

For starters, the platform will showcase more than 50 immersive collections from partner museums across the country, NewsCorp reports.

Users will now be able to learn more about impressive specimens like "Sweetheart," a 5.1-metre-long Estuarine Crocodile from the Northern Territory and much more.

Engineering director of Google Australia, Alan Noble, said new platform celebrates Australia's rich and unique offering for natural history and was now available for the entire world to experience and to education institutions across the country.

Google said there will be seven museums from Australia contributing towards the the platform, including the Australian Museum, Museum Victoria, Queensland Museum and South Australian Museum.

Highlights of the platform will include the launch of seven new Google expeditions, 43,000 historic artefacts that are digitized and preserved as well as 31 exhibitions and much more.
