HANOI, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- A mine left from the war exploded in a coal mine in northern Vietnam on Thursday afternoon, seriously injuring 14 local miners.
The 14 men, who are now in critical condition, are workers of Khe Cham Coal Company in Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province, the provincial authorities announced.
According to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund of the United States, during the 1965-1975 Vietnam War, the U.S. Armed Forces deployed more than 15 million tons of bombs, mines, artillery shells and other ordnance in the country, in which 10 percent did not detonate as designed.
