MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and 36 others injured as a suicide bomber blew himself up next to a group of Ashura mourners in the north Afghanistan Wednesday, a local official said.

"A procession of Ashura mourners were on a street in Balkh district of Balkh province to pay tribute to Imam Hussian the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), when a terrorist tied explosive device in his body blew himself up among the mourners," Balkh district governor Amir Mohammad Waqar told Xinhua.

Meantime, some eyewitnesses have said that the blast was a remote-controlled bomb that targeted the Ashura mourners.

This is the second attack on Ashura mourners over the past two days. In the previous attack, which happened inside a shrine in Kabul on Tuesday night, claimed the lives of 16 people and wounding 54 others, according to Interior Ministry.
