Maldivian defense chief arrives in Nepal on six-day visit

KATHMANDU, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chief of Defence Force of the Maldives, Major General Ahmed Shiyam, arrived here on a six-day official visit, the Nepali Army Headquarters said on Tuesday.

The Maldivian Army General was received by Senior Army Official Hemanta Raj Kunwar at the Tribhuwan International Airport.

General Ahmed was presented a Guard of Honor from a troop of Army at a function at the Army Headquarters in the Capital today itself.

The Maldivian Army General held a meeting with Nepali Army Chief Rajendra Chettri in the afternoon. The Nepali Army officials shared their experiences and feelings during the rescue operations after the devastating earthquakes last year in Nepal to General Ahmed.

In course of his Nepal visit, General Ahmed is slated to visit academic institutions of the Army and some tourists' destinations in Nepal.

"The Nepali Army believes that such kinds of visits between the military officials of the two countries help to strengthen and expand military relationships," the statement added.
