NEW DELHI, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Indian President Pranab Mukherjee Tuesday met with visiting Myanmar's State Counsellor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi at Rashtrapati Bhavan (the president's official residence).

"State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi calls on President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan," Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting tweeted.

Suu Kyi, who is on a four-day visit to India, also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where she had been accorded a ceremonial reception earlier, and Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

"Boosting ties with Myanmar. Ceremonial welcome for State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi is followed by a meeting with Sushma Swaraj," Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup tweeted.

Suu Kyi Monday met India's main opposition Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi and spent sometime with her in her residence. She reportedly discussed steps for strengthening Myanmar-India ties.

This is Suu Kyi's first visit to India after her National League for Democracy party assumed power this year.
