YANGON, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Seventeen more bodies have been recovered inside a sunken ferry when it was partly salvaged from Chindwin river in northwestern Myanmar, bringing the death toll to 55, official media reported Thursday.
Among the 55 bodies, female accounted for 43, most of whom are school teachers and university students.
A total of 159 people survived the tragedy.
The ferry capsized on Saturday in the river near Kanni after hitting a rock on its voyage from Homelin to Monywa.
About 300 passengers were believed to be on board the ferry and overloading was blamed for the accident.
