TOKYO, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Japan has extended around 30 billion yen (286 million U.S. dollars) in loans for development policy in Jordan, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Thursday.

After a meeting between Abe and visiting Jordan's King Abdullah II, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding and Tokyo also pledged grant aid totaling 1 billion yen to help Jordan secure its borders using Japanese technology.

Regarding the predicament related to the war in Syria, Abe said Japan would continue to support Jordan and praised the country for its continued efforts in combating insurgency and contributing to stability in the Middle East.

"Japan will continue to thoroughly support Jordan, which is generously taking in many Syrian refugees, putting every effort into dealing with terrorism and violent extremism and playing a vital role at the core of stability in the Middle East region," Abe told a press briefing.

King Abdullah II, whose three-day trip will conclude on Friday, said he was thankful to Japan for helping his country share the burden of what he described as an "unprecedented humanitarian crisis."
