Lwandamina resigns as coach of Zambia's Champions League side

LUSAKA, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- George Lwandamina has resigned as head coach of Zambia's 2016 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League Zesco United, the club said on Monday.

Lwandamina, who guided the club to the semi-finals of the Champions League where they lost to South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns, has tendered his resignation just four matches before the end of the season.

"Zesco United Football Club would like to announce that head coach George Lwandamina this morning tendered in his resignation from his position with immediate effect," the club said in a statement posted on its website.

Zesco United has accepted his resignation and thanked for his work and contribution during his stay, and has since appointed his assistant, Tennant Chembo, as a caretaker trainer, the club said.

Lwandamina, also as acting national soccer team trainer, joined the club in 2014 and has won two league titles, one Barclays Cup, Charity Shielded and guided the team to the 2016 CAF Champions League semi-finals.

He was recently linked with a move to Tanzanian side Young Africans where he is reported to have signed a two year deal.
