TOKYO, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares tumbled Wednesday morning with the Nikkei index briefly down over 3 percent and declining below the 17,000 line, as market sentiment was weighed by speculation that Republican candidate Donald Trump's chance of winning the U.S. presidential election is growing.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average slid 382.48 points, or 2.23 percent, from Tuesday to 16,788.90.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange went down 30.85 points, or 2.26 percent, to 1,332.64.
Decliners were led by marine transportation, transportation equipment and rubber product issues.
