JAKARTA, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) --- Indonesia's export of fish and fishery products from January to August increased 3.69 percent to 2.6 billion U.S. dollars from a year earlier, a senior official of fishery ministry said here on Wednesday.

The export was dominated by the shipment of shrimp to the United States, said Nilanto Perbowo, director general for product competitiveness of the fishery ad maritime ministry.

The cumulative of shrimp export by August rose 3.75 to 1.13 billion U.S. dollars, on yearly basis, he added.

"Our shrimp exports exceed the exports from Thailand, now we dominate the shipment of shrimp overseas," Perbowo said at the ministry.

The hike of shrimp exports came after Indonesia witnessed declines on the shipment of the commodity overseas in the past, the official said.

Still importation of fish and fishery products was down 0.58 percent during the period, he added.

Indonesia is an archipelago country with 17,500 islands and home to abundant marine resources.
