BUDAPEST, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Macedonia could count on Hungary's support in any bid for NATO and EU membership, he told a news conference here on Friday after meeting with former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.
Orban said he hoped that Macedonia would achieve membership as soon as possible.
Gruevski called Hungary one of his country's chief allies and underlined the high level of cooperation between the two countries. He also said he thought the forthcoming elections in Macedonia were an excellent opportunity to end the political crisis in the country.
Macedonia is holding early parliamentary elections on Dec. 11 that it hopes will resolve nearly two years of domestic crisis, brought about by a wiretapping scandal that forced Gruevski's resignation among others. Enditem
