ISLAMABAD, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan has appointed Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar as the country's new intelligence chief, according to local media on Monday.
Mukhtar was previously serving as the corps commander of Karachi. He replaces Lt. Gen Rizwan Akhtar, who in turn has been appointed as president of the National Defense University (NDU) in Islamabad, a statement from the military's media section said on Sunday.

The army also appointed the ISPR chief, or the military spokesman, Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, Inspector General Arms at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. Bajwa has served as the military's top spokesman since June 2012.
