BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Adhering to the one-China principle is the political foundation to develop China-U.S. ties and a cornerstone for peace and stability across the Taiwan strait, a Chinese government spokesperson said Wednesday.

An Fengshan, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at a press conference in response to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's recent remarks on the one-China principle.

Breach of the principle will produce a serious impact on peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, An said.
