KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Police in Afghanistan's Kunduz province have launched search operations to locate and ensure the safe release of the abducted employee of the International Committee of the Read Cross (ICRC), local police said Wednesday.
Unknown armed men on Monday intercepted four employees of ICRC when they were traveling in vehicles to Kunduz city, and later released local ICRC employees but kept the foreigner in their custody.
"Efforts and operations are underway to locate and ensure the safe release of the employee of ICRC from the clutch of his abductors," spokesman for Kunduz police Hujatullah Akbari told Xinhua.
No group or individual have claimed of responsibility for the abduction. Taliban militants are active in parts of the troubled Kunduz province.
Although no clue about the whereabouts of the abducted employee of ICRC has been spotted, Akbari stated that the kidnapped person might have been taken to insecure areas where militants are active.
