MEXICO CITY, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- A powerful earthquake shook southern Chile on Sunday, but the emergency services said there were no immediate reports of deaths.
The quake measured 7.7 on the Richter scale according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Chile's national emergencies office registered it at 7.6.
Chilean authorities initially issued a tsunami alert and urged people to flee the coastal areas.
