PHNOM PENH, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen's wife Bun Rany was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Literature by China's Guangxi University for Nationalities on Monday in recognition of her contribution to promoting bilateral exchanges.

Xie Shangguo, president of Guangxi University for Nationalities, presented the degree to Bun Rany, who is the president of Cambodian Red Cross, at a ceremony here.

Hun Sen attended the ceremony and offered a bunch of flower to his wife.

Xie said for years, Bun Rany had paid high attention to enhancing China-Cambodia relations, promoting Chinese language teaching in Cambodia, and encouraging the exchanges of education and culture between the two countries.

"The awarding of the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Literature to Bun Rany is not only a testament to her comprehensive knowledge and wise leadership, but also admiration for her effort in developing national higher education sector as well as her contribution to enhancing China-Cambodia relations," he said.

Bun Rany, 62, said the degree truly reflected her tireless effort in humanitarian work, socio-cultural development, national literature promotion and so on.

"This is a great honor not only for me, but also for the Cambodian women and the whole nation," she said.

Prior to this latest honorary doctorate degree, Bun Rany was already the holder of four honorary doctorate degrees awarded by universities in Cambodia and South Korea.

In October last year, the Guangxi University for Nationalities also bestowed an Honorary Doctor Degree in Literature on Hun Sen in recognition of his effort to excel in leadership, unify the country and foster a strong relationship between China and Cambodia.
