LOS ANGELES, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The 74th Golden Globe Awards held here Sunday night attracted more than 20 million viewers, TV rating figures showed Monday.
NBC's coverage of the Golden Globes this year drew its second-largest audience since 2008, according to official figures released by Nielsen.
The ceremony from The Beverly Hilton, hosted by "The Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon, saw an 8.1-percent increase over the 18.5 million average for last year's ceremony, hosted by English comedian Ricky Gervais.
Since 2008, only the 2014 ceremony, hosted by actresses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, drew more viewers, averaging 20.8 million.
The audience watching this Golden Globe Awards ceremony was the largest on broadcast television for any prime-time program, outside of sporting events, since the 2016 Academy Awards.
This was the third time since 2005 that the Golden Globes audience has surpassed 20 million viewers.
