TOKYO, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened higher on Wednesday with the European stocks in positive territory and the Nasdaq Composite reaching an intra-day record peak overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 55.69 points, or 0.29 percent, from Tuesday to 19,357.13.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange leapt 5.74 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,548.05.
Gainers were led by iron and steel, nonferrous metal and insurance issues.
