YANGON, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar government has appointed U Thaung Tun as national security advisor, according to an announcement of the presidential office released Wednesday.
The national security advisor was named so as to advise the president and the government on internal and external threats by assessing situation from a strategic point of view, the president-signed announcement said, adding that the advisor holds the same status as a minister.
Matters related to the rights and entitlement of the national security advisor to the government are to be administered by the government, according to the announcement.
