SYDNEY, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Over 90 dogs, including nearly 40 puppies, have been rescued from an alleged puppy farm in the Australian state of Queensland, due to appalling conditions.
Some dogs had been feeding on the corpses of the dead animals, while another had been locked in a caravan with a dead canine.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) was alerted to the situation by the Queensland Police Force, and raided the premises to discover the gruesome scenes.
RSPCA Queensland Chief Inspector Daniel Young said at least eight dead dogs were found on the property, while 81 dogs and ten cats were removed and taken to their headquarters.
"The conditions the dogs and cats were being kept in were very disturbing," Young said.
"There was inadequate shelter and water, and a number of the dogs were carrying injuries that needed urgent veterinary treatment."
The breeds of the seized dogs included Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Pitbulls and French Bulldogs.
Authorities anticipated a number of charges to be laid shortly as an investigation was ongoing.
