Cambodian PM receives IOC's highest sports award

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday awarded the "IOC President's Trophy" to Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen in recognition of his contributions and efforts in promoting the Olympic movement.

IOC executive board member Ng Ser Miang presented the highest sports award to the prime minister at a ceremony held at the Peace Palace.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Hun Sen said the prestigious award was a new pride for him, his family, and the whole nation.

"The trophy will become a major foundation to further support the process of sports development in Cambodia," he said.

Ng Ser Miang said the trophy was bestowed on the prime minister in recognition of his great efforts in promoting sports to the people and his outstanding support to the Olympic movement and the Olympic values and ideals.

"The prime minister recognizes the importance of sports play in national building and in developing fitness and health for the people. He has spared no effort to create opportunities in sports participation, especially among the youth," he said.
