WARSAW, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. troops stationed in Poland commenced a joint training with Polish soldiers at a training ground in Zagan, western Poland on Monday.

The 3rd armored brigade combat team came to Poland in January as part of the program aimed at strengthening NATO's eastern flank.

"This is a historic moment," Polish President Andrzej Duda said during the training inauguration, adding that the presence of U.S. troops in Poland meant the country was within the space of allied security.

The joint exercises aim to increase cooperation and interoperability of the armed forces for their effectiveness on future battlefields.

General Timothy Ray, deputy commander of the United States European Command, emphasized that the constant rotational presence of U.S. forces in Poland and the region was proof the United States took their treaty obligations seriously.

The U.S. military convoy with soldiers from the 3rd armored brigade combat team are part of NATO's project of reinforcing the eastern flank of the alliance. The brigade is to consist of 3,500 soldiers, stationed on four training grounds.
