Egypt's Sisi receives his Lebanese counterpart in Cairo

CAIRO, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi received on Monday his visiting Lebanese counterpart Michel Aoun at the Ittihadia Palace in Cairo, reported the state-run MENA news agency.

Both leaders discussed recent developments in their respective countries as well as the Middle East region, including the Syrian crisis.

During the press conference following the meeting, Sisi congratulated the Lebanese people for their successful presidential elections in addition to forming a government which met their aspirations.

Sisi also conveyed Egypt's full support of Lebanon's stability, and lauded relations binding both countries and populations.

President Sisi stressed that both countries share similar views on several regional issues, in addition to cultural and social ties.

Sisi added that Egypt actively sought stability for Lebanon and maintains open communication channels with various Lebanese political powers, and declared the need for national dialogue in order to end their differences.

The Egyptian president said that his country will continue supporting Lebanon on all levels, expressing conviction that the Lebanese president is capable of protecting his country from regional disputes.

Furthermore, Sisi said discussions with his counterpart addressed economic and trade relations, and pointed out their joint vision to market their industrial products in Africa.

Egypt's president additionally expressed his country's readiness to support Lebanon's army and security agencies in order to enable them to cope with any potential risks.

The meeting further tackled the upcoming Arab summit in Jordan as well as means to overcome existing challenges, Sisi revealed.
