Sri Lankan PM awarded doctorate from Australian university

COLOMBO, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday was awarded a doctorate from Deakin University in Australia for his significant contributions in reforms of economy, education and human rights in the island country.

The prime minister was awarded the honorary doctorate in law at a graduation ceremony held at the Deakin University in Geelong, Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha De Silva said.

Wickremesinghe and his wife along with a delegation of ministers left for Australia on Monday on a four-day visit, during which he is supposed to hold discussions with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his cabinet ministers in Melbourne and Canberra.

Several key agreements are also expected to be signed during the visit.
