SUVA, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Fiji will conduct its national census in September, leading local newspaper the Fiji Sun reported Monday.
Preparations are underway at the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, including the use of digital mapping for every household.
A few thousand people will soon be recruited to gather information from individual houses, according to Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Fiji's attorney-general and minister for economy.
Fijians should provide accurate information when census officials knock at their doors this September, Sayed-Khaiyum said, adding that such data will help the government to make right decisions.
The census will be able to capture movement of population and age group, he said.
According to the previous census, which was conducted a decade ago, Fiji's total population stood at 837,271.
