GENEVA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Swiss Federal Council said Wednesday that police operations were carried out in canton Ticino against two men suspected of having links to extremist organizations.
"The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) is conducting criminal proceedings against two men, one with dual Swiss-Turkish citizenship and the other a Turkish citizen," the Swiss government said in a written statement.
"The proceedings are based on suspicions of a violation of Article 2 of the federal act on the prohibition of Al-Qaeda, Islamic State and associated organizations, of supporting or participating in a criminal organization and of an offence related to representations of acts of violence," it added.
As part of investigations, police contingents conducted out searches in several houses as well as a house of prayer. Initial reports have revealed that one person has been arrested.
