JAKARTA, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The number of foreign holiday makers coming to Indonesia increased in January on yearly basis, with Chinese tourists contributing the most.

The national statistics bureau announced Wednesday that 1.03 million foreign holiday makers visited Indonesia in January, 26.58 percent higher from a year earlier.

Head of the bureau Kecuk Suhariyanto said that Chinese tourists contributed 20.27 percent of the arrivals.

Singapore tourists contributed 11.82 percent, Australia 10.21 percent and Malaysia 9.86 percent, he added.

"We hope that the period for tourists to stay will rise as tourism sector will be one of the triggers of Indonesian economic growth," Suhariyanto told a press conference at the bureau headquarters.
