ANKARA, March 5 (Xinhua) -- A Turkish runner died in the 12th Runatolia International Antalya Marathon on Sunday, the local Dogan News Agency reported.
Zeynel Murat Batur, 36, dropped to the ground and died just 500 meters from the finish line in spite of emergency treatment administered by the medical team.
The cause of his death is unclear, according to organizers, who say it will be determined after an autopsy.
The International Runatolia Antalya Marathon was held for the 12th time in the southern Antalya province on Sunday, including a half marathon, a 10-kilometer race and a disabled race.
A total of 11,200 professional and amateur runners from Turkey and abroad participated in the marathon.
