RIYADH, March 7 (Xinhua) -- A Saudi policeman was shot dead by an unknown culprit on Tuesday in Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, Sabq local online news reported.
The incident, yet to be confirmed by the interior ministry, took place in Qatif region after a series of arson attacks targeted bank branches and money exchange offices there from the beginning of 2017.
Attacks against police personnel in Qatif have increased, as similar shootings have killed at least five policemen and injured some others in 2016.
The main suspects are violent youth members of the Shiite minority community mostly residing in Eastern Province, who are demanding more rights in the conservative Sunni state.
