CAIRO, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Former Egyptian ambassador to China Mahmoud Allam said Wednesday that China and the U.S. have reached a kind of maturity through interlinked common interests and various mechanisms of dialogue.
"This is illustrated by the amount of U.S. investments in China and the U.S. treasury bonds owned by the Chinese government," said Mahmoud Allam when commenting on Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's remarks Wednesday at a press conference after the conclusion of the annual legislative session.
It is natural for such two big powers to have differences, but the Chinese side in particular has succeeded to create a base of common interests with the United States that make it in favor of both sides to communicate, reach agreement and coexist, he added.
The common interests do not allow any confrontation that may harm these interests, as indicated in the remarks of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, he said.
Based on the policies adopted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, I believe that China will continue working on activating mechanisms of dialogue, he said.
Mahmoud Allam believed that the American side is aware that it is in their favor to maintain healthy relations with China and avoid confrontation.
Meanwhile, Egypt's former assistant foreign minister and vice-chairman of Egypt-China Friendship Association Ahmed Waly held that Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's remarks on meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump are encouraging.
He said that any meeting between the two presidents of China and the United States will be very important and will help to improve the two countries' bilateral relations.
The meeting will be a frank gathering and direct communication between the two leaders that could contribute to resolving many disagreements between the two countries, he said.
"It will be in favor of both China and the United States, as it is a chance for closely understanding each others' views. It will also be in favor of world peace, because it will prevent possibilities of any conflicts or economic or military confrontations between the two big powers," he stressed.
As Premier Li said, the eruption of a trade war will not in favor of any of the two countries. There are American companies investing in China and likewise there are a lot of Chinese products in the United States, he noted.
Secretary-general of the Egyptian-Chinese Chamber Of Commerce Diaa Helmi said Wednesday that "holding a summit between the presidents of China and the United States will be very important, because it will provide a step forward toward mutual understanding."
Even if there are differences in views between the two countries, the non-communication would only widen the gap, he warned.
The first meeting between the two leaders is very important to avoid an impasse, especially at a time when the United States is now administered by new president Trump, he said, adding that he believes that Trump will eventually gives up his provocative policies economically and politically, he said.
