ATHENS, March 16 (Xinhua) -- A Greek guerilla group on Thursday claimed the responsibility for the package with explosives sent to the German Finance Ministry on Wednesday.

In a statement posted on an anarchist website, the group, called Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire, did not explain why the German Finance Ministry was chosen as a target.

But it threatened with more attacks against "structures of the establishment" under an operation scheme named Nemesis in cooperation with the Informal Anarchist Federation, an insurrectionary anarchist group originating in Italy.

The first attack under the scheme was launched in autumn last year with a bomb attack outside the home of a Greek district attorney in central Athens, according to the group, which Europol and the U.S. State Department consider a terrorist group.

Numerous judges, politicians, police and financial targets have been attacked over the past four decades by Greek domestic terrorist groups.

The Greek authorities confirmed on Wednesday evening that a package with explosives found at the German Finance Ministry earlier in the day was sent from Greece, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.

German police said that the package found at German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble's office building was designed to cause considerable injuries.

The Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire group emerged in January 2008. It has claimed responsibility for 300 attacks.

In the autumn of 2010, the group mailed a dozen parcel bombs to foreign embassies in Athens and European leaders. In most cases, the suspicious packages were intercepted.

Greek counter-terrorism police are trying to trace the post office the perpetrators used to send the package and clarify how it passed airport controls.
