MALE, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's visit to the Maldives which was scheduled to begin Saturday has been postponed due to the rapidly spreading H1N1 virus in the Maldives, a government statement said Friday.

The government said that the Saudi king's visit has been delayed and did not say for how long the visit had been pushed back.

Maldives Foreign Minister Mohamed Assim said Friday that once a new date for the visit was set, it would be released to the public.

Maldives opposition parties have been protesting the Saudi king's visit, alleging that one of its atolls was being sold to the Saudi royal family.
