BRUSSELS, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Major social media companies, like Facebook, Twitter and Google+, have been urged to comply with the European Union (EU) consumer laws by addressing two areas of concern.

According to a European Commission statement on Friday, the companies have agreed to propose changes focusing on two areas: unfair terms and conditions; addressing fraud and scams that mislead consumers when using the social networks.

There were a growing number of complaints from consumers, who have been targeted by fraud or scams when using social media websites, and have been subject to certain terms of services that do not respect EU consumer law, the statement noted.
