Chinese gymnast wins parallel bars title in FIG World Cup in Baku

BAKU, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese male gymnast Liu Rongbin won the parallel bars gold medal at the World Cup in artistic gymnastics in Baku on Saturday, proving his readiness for the competitions at the highest level.

Liu got a score of 15.133 points, a sizable margin ahead of another Chinese, the silver medalist He Youxiao, who scored 14.866 points. The bronze went to Shogo Nonomuro from Japan who scored 14.700 points.

The FIG Artistic Gymnastics Individual Apparatus World Cup started in Baku on March 16. Athletes from 23 countries and regions are to perform at the World Cup hosted by the Azerbaijani capital for the second time.

Qualifications will be held on the first two days of the event followed by the apparatus Finals on last two days.

The first day of finals features finals in free exercises, exercises on parallel beams and rings among men and base jumps and uneven bars exercises among women.

In total, 10 sets of medals will be handed out over the World Cup, which will end in Baku on March 19.
