YANGON, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The National League for Democracy (NLD)-led government has been making great efforts to develop Myanmar's economy through the promotion of tourism across the country since assuming office.

The government pledged in its investment policy which was issued last year to favor investments related to the sector of travel and tour so as to boost the country's tourism.

U Ohn Maung, minister for hotel and tourism, said the government has tried hard to promote the industry over the past year and will continue to do so in the future.

Efforts have been made to enhance community-based tourism and develop tourism in the country's southernmost Taninthayi region which boasts the most beautiful natural environment in the country.

The government has also worked to improve human resources, permit more hotel licenses and strengthen regional cooperation.

The tourism ministry also displayed new tourist destinations at international exhibitions to attract more tourists.

More places across the nation will be developed as new destinations for community-based tourism in the coming years. The government is also making coordination for the launching of Myanmar-Laos-Vietnam cross-country tour next year.

The country expects to receive more than 7 million tourist arrivals and earn more than 9 billion U.S. dollars within five years from 2017 to 2021, according to the government's second five-year National Development Plan (from fiscal year 2016-2017 to 2020-2021).
