French FM in London to express solidarity after terror attack

PARIS, March 23 (Xinhua) -- French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault on Thursday flew to London to stand along with Britain following a terror attack that claimed many victims including three French nationals.

Expressing support to British authorities and people, French top diplomat met with officials in London and also visited the nationals wounded in the assault.

Ayrault "recalls unwavering commitment to fight terrorism", the French foreign ministry said in a statement.

In an attack, described as a "terrorist" assault, a knifeman stabbed to death a police officer outside the house of parliament in London before being shot dead.

Minutes earlier, the attacker, with his vehicle crashed into people near Westminster Bridge, leaving scores injured, among them three French school students.

Two other individuals were reported dead, British police said.

According to French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, French teens who were on school trip to London, will returned home on Thursday while those wounded will stay in hospital for medical treatment.
