JAKARTA, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Over 2,500 taekwondo athletes from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia will compete in a championship in Jakarta this year, a senior officer disclosed here on Friday.
The Menhan Cup 2017 tournament will be held from March 31 to April 2, said Maj. General Yoedhi Swastanto, director general for strategy in the Indonesian Defense Ministry.
The tournament was expected to give opportunity to the country's taekwondo association to find new talented athletes, he said.
"Hopefully this tournament will boost the quality of the sport and facilitate the emerging of qualified national athletes," Swastanto said at the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The tournament will hold beginner-class category for under-8 year old athletes, and achievement category which consists of 10 classes for men and women, according to him.
The tournament is organized by the Indonesian Defense Ministry.
