Wolf spiders have different personalities and know about romance?

Source: Xinhua   2017-03-29 15:49:48

NEW YORK, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Different types of wolf spiders have different personalities and lure their mates through their own romantic tricks, according to researchers at the University of Cincinnati.

Although genetically similar, wolf spiders behave differently. They act as if they have different personalities and learn from experiences and other factors.

The university said this finding challenged a common idea that spider behavior is simply directed by gene, according to an International Business Times report.

Take their courtship behavior as an example. Some types of wolf spiders send out vibrations to their mates, while some use visual cues like waving their legs, the university said in a statement.

A male of one species of wolf spiders even "raises his fuzzy appendages over his head while bouncing his body and fangs on the ground to create vibrations," said the university.
