BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese bicycle-sharing giant Mobike announced an upgraded partnership with Tencent on Wednesday to embed its service in WeChat.
In addition to scanning QR codes and using the mini program, WeChat users can now log into the Mobike service via WeChat's wallet function. Mobike is now included in WeChat's default payment services, along with Didi Chuxing and Meituan's take-away service.
As a strategic investor in Mobike, Tencent has participated in two rounds of investment in the bicycle-sharing platform.
The upgraded partnership is expected to lend strong support to Mobike's expansion as Tencent's WeChat service boasted about 889 million monthly active users by the end of 2016.
Mobike also decided to offer free rides for 30 days as long as users access the service via WeChat.
In less than a year, the Shanghai-based leading bicycle-sharing platform has expanded its service to 36 cities with over one million bicycles. It announced last week it will expand overseas to Singapore.
