LJUBLJANA, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's registered alcohol consumption in 2015 increased to 11.5 liters of pure alcohol per person above 15 years of age, according to the latest data released Wednesday by the Slovenian National Public Health Institute.
Slovenia's alcohol consumption has over decades exceeded the acceptable annual limit of five liters of pure alcohol per person, and in 2015, an average Slovene drank more than a year before.
The Institute noted that excessive drinking is not only associated with major health problems but also with a serious financial burden for the state, according to the Slovenian Press Agency on Wednesday.
Slovenia still ranks high in the EU in both consumption and its harmful consequences, official data showed.
