MOSCOW, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Russia recorded a decrease in alcohol and tobacco consumption in 2016, Russian newspaper Izvestiya reported on Monday.

According to a report of the consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, the number of patients diagnosed with alcoholism fell by 36 percent and the number of alcoholics registered in treatment-and-prophylactic establishments decreased by 24 percent.

Moreover, tobacco consumption decreased by 39 percent among the adult population, it said.

In 2011, restrictions on selling alcohol were strengthened. The list of places where alcohol selling was prohibited became longer, and a ban on alcohol selling was imposed between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. of the next day.

At the moment, Rospotrebnadzor is considering a new version of the anti-tobacco concept that equates e-cigarettes with the traditional ones.
