BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- China reaffirmed Tuesday its support for better relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying made the remarks at a daily press briefing.

According to Yonhap reports, the administration of ROK President Moon Jae-in plans to resume humanitarian assistance to the DPRK and civilian inter-Korean exchanges to an extent that would not compromise the international sanctions regime.

"We are aware of the positive signals released by the new ROK government toward the DPRK," said Hua.

She said China has always supported the DPRK and the ROK to enhance contact, increase communication, improve relations and push forward reconciliation and cooperation.

Seoul has suspended almost all civilian inter-Korean exchanges since the DPRK conducted its fourth nuclear test in January 2016.
